Many writers and entrepeneurs like myself who receive a regular column in their email from TORRENT FREAK, so pay close attention to a recent item that involved the Police in Finland and a 9 year old girl. Here is what Torrent Freak wrote: Posted Nov 25, 2012 The news this week that Finnish Police had seen fit to raid the home of a 9 year old(file-Sharer)has turned into one of the biggest stories of the year so far.Ok, the event was hardly comparable to the military style raid at the Dot-Com Mansion but it was still an example of a disproportionate show of force by the police at the behest of copyright holders. Of course, while Dotcoms were undoubted affected by their action at their home in January they weren't the prime targets. In contrast and quite unbelievably in this weeks debacle the unlucky daughter of Finlands Aki Nyland was.But in spite of being a common-sense disaster, this weeks screw up could become some of the best news we have had all year. And here's why: If police targeted the admins of one of the biggest torrent sites in the world this week or rounded up some heavy pre-leasers or similar, people might complain or it might hardly come as a surprise. The writing has been on the wall for a long time in that respect and the backlash from the public would be almost non-existent. But in what kind of parallel universe does a professional, western police force think its appropriate, proportionate and good use of tax-payers dollars to send officers to a citizens home for a petty file-sharing issue, one involving the downloading of a single music album? And Torrent Freak goes on to speak about Warner Bros and Disney and others actively going after those who file-share. In this case, a 9 year old child, who lost her Winnie the Pooh laptop as a result. Makes one cringe a little, and of course the issue of copyright and file sharing has again reared its ugly head, those on one side trying to say they have a right to watch and listen to movies and music when and where they like - and those companies with great wealth able to utilize the police to mobilize against simple folk who may have or have not gotten into this mess by the simple fact - a child of 9, with the help of her friends, decided to file share - and the parents with or without a lack of computer literacy - shook their heads in disbelief as to what was happening. If you are using Torrents or File share - you may well want to be on the mailing list from Torrent Freak, just to be kept abreast of what is happening now around the world - even during the Christmas season involving the Police, the Government, music and movie studios and those ordinary people who feel they have to right to file share....
