Back to cottage country for three days and feeling refreshed. Hard to accomplish much outdoors with the snow and slippery conditions up here in Canada but nonetheless there are always things to do. Mostly burning brush and when you have a fire close to some spruce you have to watch carefully that the fire does not get out of control.  It seems the local landfill would not accept a truck load of painted old fence boards so we had to cut these up and burn them. The smoke drifted into the forest and eventually sunshine warmed the day.Our little doggie Sandy has put on years and walked slowly through the woods with me. I tried to make up some large tracks so her paws would have someplace to follow easily. Still, it was a struggle for the old dog. For me, with felt lined boots it was easy going but we kept our eyes open for possibly any bear awakening from its den this time of year and even a stray wolf or cougar. One night my wife heard a loud thump on the roof of the cottage. I still think it might well have been a cougar.

And spring is now in the air. We spotted a few pussywillows and ordered our garden seeds for early planting. The local university shall supply us with a load of compost. So there are things to look forward to this time of year. In the meantime, we wait for the snow to move along...here, in
cottage country...
