Most of us probably at least take a glance at our local obituary in the daily newspaper. Look a little closer and perhaps you find an old school friend has passed away, or maybe someone not so old, a newborn or small child. Some very very old people and some you would not expect to see there. Fact is, one day sometime in the future we shall make our own grand entry (or not so grand) into this very special corner of the daily newspaper. We read about Mr and Mrs. Everybody who attended a certain school, belonged to a certain social network and who accumulated so many degrees or some degree of wealth (or lack of it) and then the very ordinary obituary for Mr and Mrs. Nobody who lived down the road on the corner and like little Jack Horner, quietly lived and died. No pomp and ceremony. Just a quick reminder to friends and family to send a card, take a few moments from a busy schedule to remember...ah, to remember.
And how easy it is to forget. Caught up in the daily chase of seek and find and survive, hardly time to catch our breath. Like the country song by Alabama - "I'm in a hurry to get things done, I'm in a hurry and I don't know why, when all I have to do is live and die."
Well, it is important, if some of us need a reminder, to remember old friends and aging family members that would benefit from a visit, and we would also benefit from being a good listener, finding out a few precious things about our past lives, about members of our family....things we really did not know. That is, until its too late. Until the day of the obituary where we find out very little. They lived, they died. I think I remember that name? Or wait a minute....was that someone else?

Just a second, perhaps I'd best check todays Obituary...so see if my name is there.....
