How can we change the attitude of society towards pensioners in the UK today? Why are so many senior citizens addressed as though we're mentally deficent or hard of hearing?
Many times the response to our questions is at best condescending,at worst we're ignored.
Ageism is rife in the workplace, where experience counts for nothing.
When we need health care, the attitude appears to be in some cases that we've had our lives.
We approach local Councils for advice, all to often the reply is a thinly veiled "No" to our legitimate enquiry.Granted, there are many charities designed to aid the older generation, all too often applicants drop through the net,or give up after completing endless forms.
This also applies to many Government  b enefits ,where the procedure would baffle Einstein, let alone the average pensioner.
The answer is to perservere, but many older people are reticent, shy or simply too polite to insist on an answer.
