I only had a little change that cool autumn day, but
as my truck moved up the off ramp of a busy freeway, there she was, looking like a rag doll. Sign in hand that read: HELP ME. HUNGRY. And
cars and trucks did stop a moment, some passing a five dollar bill out the window, others like myself, just a few coins, but something....

And we often really do not know whether some of these folks are professional cons, looking to live off the sympathy of the world or indeed are truly hungry and out of work and in need of help. How do we know?  Well, I suppose we really don't know!? So my thought that cool day was to pass a
little change out the window in good faith. There was a flash of a smile and a quiet whisper...thankyou, oh thankyou...

I had passed that corner many times and the girl
who stood there looked dismal, lost to the world, yet there was that thought in the back of the minds of many who turned that corner....is this for real
and is this the real deal.  I have heard of a man walking about a small town 30 miles out of the city,
collecting money and carrying a white cane. Only to suddenly dispose of the cane when it was time to leave town. Someone caught him throwing the cane in the ditch. So he put a lot of change in his pocket, got into his car parked down the road and drove back to the city to plan his next scheme. Not a nice person. And I am convinced life catches up to such people.

So just maybe that is why there are more registered charitable organizations that are able to collect -
because people are more trusting and convinced that the money will get to go where it should...
and yet,
some cool winter day -
Maybe, just maybe,
You, like I
shall pass some change
not really knowing,
except for the goodness
in our heart
GIVING.......
To someone
who waits
in
the
cold.......
