How are police and the community dealing with daily issues, such as crime, mental health, social
housing, homelessness? There seems to be a connection of crime with social issues. That is why, in some cities in Canada mental-health workers travel along with police. Amazing that a smaller city such as Prince Albert, Saskatchewan is looking at projects used in Toronto - as a similar strategy.

No doubt the police want to avoid the spotlight such as was the case at the Vancouver Airport that made news a few years ago. In that tragic story
involving an immigrant who could not speak English getting tasered - when, just perhaps someone who spoke the same language could have been called in...

Its all about learning, especially for young officers
who are armed and dangerous so to speak, but sometimes lack the experience and knowledge to deal with specific issues.

Thus the need for Community Initiatives that get
people involved in issues that require various support groups and concerned citizens. And the ability to recognize that a gun and taser are not enough...

Cheap alcohol, availability of drugs and lack of
concern from citizens can only lead to events
that might have been stopped in their tracks if
such initiatives were used previously....so now is
an opportunity to see if police together with
community and social agencies...might all make
a difference.
