We build better highways. We build cars and trucks
with some safety features. So why is that young people are losing lives on our highways?

Let me reflect back some fifty years ago. I was fifteen and starting out learning to drive.
We had a l952 Pontiac. My lessons began in a
parking lot. Before long I thought I had become
a true professional. How wrong was that type
of thinking. I remember the car sliding into the
back of a city bus on a winter day. And it almost
seemed- the more I drove, the less I knew.

Now, the vehicles for the most part almost drive
themselves, they are lighter, faster and of course
the radio or stereo can be cranked up to crazy levels. I was no different. The sound quality was not so great on that 52 Pontiac, yet I cranked up
the radio as much as possible.

I only wish I had answers for these unfortunate accidents which we read about daily. Some involve drink or drugs, some simply involve excessive speed....but what I do know, left behind are usually
parents and other family who cannot understand the
why?So young. So tragic. Such a bright future. And taken...

I reached a point where I was given a warning about excessive speed. The warning helped a great deal. I
was made aware my car and license and future as a
driver would be over...very quickly...

But I can only leave you with a prayer of hope that
something might be done to curb these horrific
accidents...and a prayer for those left behind
who suffer and hurt and remember....
