Like many folks, I have a real soft spot in my heart for the SPCA. They do such tremendous good.

It so happens the proposed location for the first location of the SPCA in Canada's Northwest Territories is  Kam Lake. Just so happens they first need to raise a lot of money.

The need is especially great in the north. There appears to be a fairly high incidence of neglect and abandonment.

Our nephew (and fireman) Ian and his wife Brigitte contribute
a great deal of time to take in occasional abused dogs and cats.
I  have been amazed at the love and kindness these two have for
animals. But its so sad to know that so many potential pets are being euthanized because of simply not having a facility anywhere in the north.

Of course we need many more folks like Ian and Brigitte
And most important - the North badly needs a shelter. Within the proposed shelter they would have indoor and outdoor kennels,
an indoor room for cats, an isolation area for sick cats and dogs,
and some outdoor runs, allowing the animals an opportunity for excercise.

Hopefully the SPCA and the Aviva Community Fund in Yellowknife, NWT will be able to raise funds and accomplish the goal of having the very first SPCA in the north.
