We read about addictions. Famous, educated and well known people play with this stuff. And rich and poor folk.   And what do we really know about addictions. Here are just a few examples:

Heroin, Yes - the bad one. Continual users end up with hepatitis A or C (possibly HIV). And even the replacement for Heroin
Oxycontin does something to the brain, users say its pure hell with hot and cold sweats, bones that ache, leg cramps, diarrhea,
vomiting, headache.

What about some of the others? Well, there would be methaphetamines known as speed. With other common names such as Meth or Crank or you are familiar with Crystal Meth.
Use meth and be certain of long term damage to the brain cells.

And then, there is Ecstasy, known as the Love Drug. It feels pretty good till it wears off. Then come the jitters, panic attacks, paranoia, possibly kidney failure.

Yes, there is more. Much more. LSD or Acid as its better known, a hallucinogen that certainly can alter the thought process and mood perception.

Magic mushrooms, angel dust, PCP, Ketamine (Special K -
not the cereal)

More, Yes more- such as Cocaine, which people snort,
smoke or inject. Seems to be a popular one. A bad bad habit.
The smokeable form of Cocaine is better known as Crack.
Extremely habit forming and addictive. Can result in rapid heart beat, dilated pupils, paranoia, and increased use can result in very aggressive and hostile behavior, even impotence and depression.

And of course, the drug for the student, the poor man, the everyday person who seems to have a need for a joint or a doob. And that would be Marijuana.  Better known as grass. Roll it or smoke it and the THC can damage nerves and cells. And much like nicotine in regular cigarettes there is a possibility of lung cancer.

For those absolutely desperate for a fix, there are the inhalents,
such as gas, paint thinners, cleaning fluid, glue, even whiteout and pen markers. These folks simply spray the inhalent into the mouth or huff it from a rag placed in the mouth. Risk here could be death or unconsciousness.

So tell me why people would want to put this stuff into their bodies with the consequences. Why indeed.

I have personally known musicians and business people who play with this awful stuff and some of these fine folks have either passed away or spend their final days in a mental hospital.
We need to tell our children and our community about these terrible things, available on the street or at your local school.

But we likewise have to be alert to other addictions such as over eating, watching too much television, because not only drugs and booze are a problem but sex, and even shopping. We need to know. We need to be aware. And we need to find out where to get help, as help is as close as the telephone. Why shorten your life or ruin the life of your family. Why??

If you know someone selling bad medicine or know of someone taking bad medicine - you could save a life today.  We all deserve a good life. We all deserve a chance. Help an addict today to achieve real results in their life.  And in so doing perhaps you will better understand what took them down this road in the first place.  There are people in sports who have played with other types of drugs. Those are still in the general category of being addictive and dangerous. And life was never meant to be bad. There is a choice. There is an opportunity to change.
