I have been trying to start this blog for days and every single time I get the chance something happens.  So here I go, hopefully this is the last time I try to write my first "going green" blog.  Unless some unfourtunate natural disaster strikes while I'm trying to finish this blog I think I should be good to go at 12 A.M. (unless my three year old or five month old suddenly decides to awaken...)

So here's my deal, and I'm starting to wonder if I've gotten in over my head already or if I should just keep trying and keep going.  About a week ago a friend of mine and I decided that we wanted to start an all natural body product line, beggining with soap and moving our way through to other things like shampoos and such.
Who knew going "green" would be so hard?  I've already spent over $150 on supplies for the sample batches we are planning to make.  We're going to make a batch of African black soap, which is supposed to be amazing.  We also have some soap bases coming from a whole sale website.  One has goat milk and one is vegan.  My essential oils have already started to arrive and after reading a million and one articles, watching tutorials, skimming through books for inspiration in recipes, and visiting about six different stores trying to price materials I am simply exhausted.
I feel as though soap has suddenly become my life.  I even made sure to find biodegradable plastic wrap and 100% recycled boxes to package our soap in.  I've thought "What's the point in selling such "green products" if I'm just going to end up shipping it on a truck somewhere?" Solution: I got online and searched until my eyeballs bled and found an organization that plants trees.  I figure when I start filling orders and shipping them off I'll donate about fifty cents from each product to the organization to help offset the emmisions of shipping.  They say on their site that one dollar plants one tree, so I don't think that's too bad.
Even though this little adventure my friend and I have embarked on has been challenging already, I do find the feeling that I might be doing something helpful for the environment very rewarding.  I can't remember the last time that I felt this way.  I feel GOOD.  Like I am going to contribute and do my part.
Now I know that some people who are reading this, if there are any people reading this, may be wondering about the friend I mentioned earlier and the lack of mention of her in my blog.  Well, my boyfriend and I just found out that he will be joining the navy soon.  This was a last resort for us in this horrible economy, but neither of us can find jobs that would support a family of four.  So I will be leaving and there will be no partnership.  For the first few months we will work together and that will be fun, but after I leave to go live only God knows where I think that I will continue in my efforts to make green products.
If you haven't tried any natural soap, that is how this whole project got started.  I ordered some all natural shampoo and conditioner which didn't strip the natural oil in my hair.  My hair had never looked so....well...shiny and volumous. So I thought I would try natural soap too, as well as moisturizer, and my skin has never felt so clean.  If there is anyone reading this, please give me some encouragement.  And if you haven't, try natural products, they really are amazing!
And end of first blog! Amazing!  I can't believe I didn't get interupted!!!
