You're right, when we are stripped of our roles, we begin to take a look of who we REALLY are. I now have the privilege to ponder on this since I became an empty nester.

I can agree, there are so many times when we forget we are human beings not just human doings. For a few years I was encaged by who everyone wanted me to be in there own way that I started to forget who I am. There is a give and take. as I lay down who I am not, I have to be brave and pick up joyfully who I am. I have to stand by the convictions of me. I also have to realize that this radical rebellion is powerful and some might not like my new freedom. Instead of returning anger in return, I have to live in love on purpose. This act of being born daily started this weekend for me. Also allowing and permission from me to be me is also vital. I am giving my self permission to be the me that I am, daily, and the allowing to let the not me, fade away. Have a great week. looking forward to reading and meditating on more of what you have to say.

After being beat up for 22 years I had to learn who the heck I was, who these kids were, how to pick up the pieces and move forward. Very well done. As I have inspired girls not to give in and get weak... I have to be available.

I agree with everything you said in your post!
And I guess the clouds are also ideas we have about ourselves: the costumes/masks/roles, the personality traits, the emotions, etc. None of it is us- we are the unchanging sky!
Thank-you for this- it is the best thing I have read all day!

I like your analogy of the clouds and the sky. As one of my favorite people and authors, Louise Hay says, "A belief is just a thought, and a thought can be changed".

Have a beautiful day.

"Know thyself." This is what Socretes said and it still is the most important thing we can ever know as you are also stating. My teacher, Prem Rawat (also known as Maharaji) has been traveling the world over and over again while revealing "Knowledge of Self" and since he first cam to the West from India at the age of 12. He teaches anyone wanting how to turn within and reveals something that is always in the here and now that we must learn to focus on. The rewards of doing so are wonderful!!! This post was able to put everything into a slightly different perspective and you hit on some key elements I personally know to be true but haven't really thought about too much (like trying to say what you think others want to hear). Excellent post!

In coming to this site, I have learned the importance in spending much needed alone time with myself pondering that exact thought of who I really am. Getting out of the mode of being Bill's wife and Jeffrey's mother. Taking time to ponder these thoughts is the best gift you can ever give yourself, so glad I MADE the time. Your post was an excellent insight in helping me in my journey to find self.

I feel deeply moved. You are absolutely right. Taking the time to find yourself is the greatest gift to yourself! It is also a gift to the whole world.
