No, that chicken was the last one we bought. The only meat I have bought since this blog has been from Jolly's - therefore local and organic.
Recycling is much better here than it used to be. Fruit juice and milk cartons, tins and plastic bottles, as well as newspaper, cardboard and batteries - all are recycled. The only things that go in our bin now are cooked food (if it's unsuitable for the dog!), the odd plastic tray from vegetables (although I have carried on not buying anything in these since my plastic-free week) and cat litter. The bag put out at the end of the week was still only half-full, and half of that contained a bag of cat litter.
I tried making yoghurt in my crock pot, but it was too hot, even on the lowest setting. The thermos flask method has proved to be an overwhelming success though, and I've had a steady production line going ever since, making a litre of yoghurt every two or three days.

This is because in the USA we can recycle more than in Orkney. We also compost LOTS. And try to buy our food fresh. Harder in the winter, much harder. Also, so-called waxed paper is probably made from petroleum wax. My daughter says we can make yogurt in a crock pot. I NEVER buy chicken in Orkney because I do not trust if. If you find a source, please let me know. Normally I do not eat beef but do eat it in Orkney if it is local. Thanks for your blog and I hope my random thoughts are of interest. See you in 2010.
