I used to make yogurt in a kit which had a glass jar and a thermal outside cover which kept it to the temp it needed. it also had a thermometer. but, it's been years and I don't remember where I got it and, as I have moved several times, it got lost along the way!
keep up the good work! I will read your other messages about this and let you know. I have not posted a blog yet but am planning to so watch for Earth Angel

I don't know how far I will take it, but you have brought some great realities about plastic to the forefront. If and when you make your own yogurt, I would be interested in hearing about it. Thanks for all the great info.

It's amazing, and heartening, how many people I speak to are as frustrated as I am with the omnipresence of plastic. Great to hear people saying they're going to try and cut down too.
My first yoghurt attempt today made me realise that I have to buy a thermometer, as my 'yoghurt' turned to curds and whey! I tried keeping the milk + yoghurt starter warm on a double boiler on the electric hob, but even at the lowest setting it was too hot. I'm tempted to buy a yoghurt maker (the Severin one looks good, with its glass jars), but will maybe hold off on that until I try doing it in the oven overnight instead, with just the oven light on.
Anyway, instead of yoghurt, I ended up with quite a nice cream cheese, which I've flavoured with garlic and herbs, and left in the fridge for our sandwiches tomorrow. Fortunately, I had some muslin, so just had to drain the whey off for a couple of hours and there it was!
(How do I submit this reply without having to rate my own article?! Apparently not possible. Thanks for all your stars, Nancy.)
