I thhguot the idea of the RTD doing an alternative rag was totally bogus and even kind of hilarious. Until they hired Pete. Anyone who knows anything about magazines, national or local, knows you can't expect one to make a ton of money (or even establish itself) in a year's time. Making mags work takes time there are some mags out there that have been around for a decade that have NEVER turned a profit. So Pete didn't even really get a chance. Also: As anyone in the freelance community will tell you, Brick never had a budget to adequately pay writers. Not sure what Pete was supposed to do other than write everything himself.I wonder if the fact that the magazine was starting to comment on Richmond politics and culture had anything to do with this boneheaded decision. Some of Pete's commentary was decidedly un-Media General. When you need to know stuff go elsewhere.
