How i would decipher the idea is ~ within ourselves ~in our life time we may have been ~accused of some wrong doing and the guilt has kept us from living a peaceful and normal life ~Putting ourselves down all the time~~Until we can let go of that and love ourselves and believe in our selves~ Everything will change for the better~
I wonder if meditation is more difficult for some people~

The way I see it is that we stop believing in ourselves early in life when some parts (or ALL parts, depending on the severity of the situation) of ourselves are shamed or rejected. For example, our need to express anger and self-assertion, or sadness, or a longing to be held and loved. Or again, a child's first innocent sexual feelings (which start to arise between the ages of 3-6) are often shamed and misunderstood by parents. Our civilization has such a long way to go in understanding and validating the innocent sexual feelings of early childhood. Most parents just have no idea how to not be threatened by this, so they shut the child down -- which results in guilt and shame, a haunting sense that "there is something wrong with me" that gets buried deep inside and lasts one's entire life.
So loving and believing in oneself involves throwing off the guilt and shame about our authentic feelings and instincts, and finally validating all the parts of us that were rejected or misunderstood. Seeing the goodness and rightness in our sexuality, in our self-protecting anger, in our longing for love, in our authentic sadness.
And, in addition, seeing and feeling our own beauty -- which is impossible when we are blinded by guilt and shame. All of us have so many wonderful facets to our selves -- kindness, sensitivity, faithfulness, determination, intelligence, creativity, love, a sense of humor, passion, various talents -- the list of beautiful things inside us is endless. By recognizing and appreciating the strengths and beauty that are part of us, we love and believe in ourselves more and more.
But I must emphasize that this task of owning one's beauty and essential rightness depends on accepting and validating one's basic emotions and instincts. This is often overlooked and. If one can't celebrate the rightness of one's anger (positive anger, as I described in an earlier blog), sexual feelings, etc. one's ability to warmly accept oneself will be tragically limited. This is why I stress the quest for UNCONDITIONAL self-love and self-validation. We needed this as children and to one degree or another didn't receive it - because our parents couldn't unconditionally love themselves. So we need to give it to ourselves now. And as we get better and better at this, inner peace and well-being, even joy, take root in our bodies and hearts and spirits.
