God's annointing is surely upon your life. As a pastor, I often feel that I spend too much time giving out the Word and not enough time taking it in. BUT because of your program and other like you, I can listen to BOTT Radio Network while I drive and enjoy some of the very best ministeries in the world. I've been listening to you for more than 12 years and I look forward to hearing you every time I can. Thank you and please keep up the good work! God Bless You,Larry

Your response to OLD SOUL clarified what you really meant. If I understood your correctly, your concept of "spiritual independence" really means "being responsible for one's choices".
I have a very different understanding of God and my relationship to Him. My dependency on and trust in God is actually a mark of spiritual maturity, not a mark of spiritual infantilism.
I enjoy your blogposts and appreciate your sharing so deeply every time.

Perhaps what I'm trying to say in my essay is that we ourselves -- and not any God or outside force -- are responsible for the basic attitude we bring to our lives: trust and love or fear. I've found for myself that the more I've accepted that challenge , the more independent of external circumstances my emotional reactions have become.
So at this point in my journey I look to my own soul first, understanding that spiritual self-reliance generates emotional security and greater trust in myself. I understand that each person walks that path of growth in a way unique to themselves! So even if all our beliefs don't coincide, we are enriched by the dialogue and the exchange. But I did have a question for you - do you believe there is no power in positive thinking. For instance, I read somewhere that the different between lucky people and unlucky people is simply a matter of perception. For instance - a person falls down a mountain but doesn't die. The unlucky person says 'I can't believe I fell down the mountain, I am so unlucky.' The lucky person says 'I'm so lucky that I didn't kill myself when I fell down the mountain.'

I know the book goes beyond perception and actually says that you can manifest what you believe, but don't you think that's true to a great extent. I'm not sure if it's in the book because I didn't read it, but from what I understand, the book goes into a bit more depth than simply thinking something and it will happen. It says, first you have to truly believe whatever you are thinking will happen, then you have to make a plan after carefully researching the subject, then passionately implement that plan - but none of it will happen if your head is filled with doubt. Therefore, the 'Secret' all starts with the power of positive thinking.

Anyway, you don't have to respond, I am just thinking out loud. Thanks for another thought provoking and possibly positively life altering post.

But I don't believe that our thoughts have the impact on the flow of events in the physical universe that books like "The Secret" preach. And -- that doesn't matter! We're not here to learn how to be "omnipotent manifestors" -- we're here to learn how to be happy. And as I said in the last blog, happiness has nothing to do with manifesting everything we want, but rather with loving and trusting ourselves and the goodness of life, whatever we do or don't manifest.
Let's face it squarely -- there are many people that don't manifest cherished desires in the real world, even if their thoughts and inner emotional attitudes are very pure and positive. And let's also squarely face the occurrence of events such as the Holocaust, or natural disasters like floods or earthquakes. In reality, we are all vulnerable to injury, disappointment and ultimately death. Our minds will not save us from thee things, they aren't that powerful -- and they aren't meant to!
The spiritual path, then, is not to engage in fantasies of complete control -- but to trust in our own goodness and beauty, and in the goodness and beauty of life, with it's unknowns and risks. This fearless, open-hearted state of being is what people really need, and cannot be achieved by focussing one's life-force on perfecting one's thoughts and manifesting external goals. It is best reached by putting one's mental and emotional focus into the journey of loving and believing in oneself. And loving others from that joyful and awakened place. LOVE -- BRYAN
