I like the idea of living "only" with 100 things - and am trying to pare down as I go. As I age with no children to whom to leave "things," I am giving them away, sending them to thrift stores, plan to sell many of my books in order to materially demonstrate that which is in my heart - people, animals, love of God, prayer, are all so more important than inanimate objects I once, like you, HAD to have :). We learn, don't we - I wish I had learned long ago but then again, there is that age/wisdom thing.

And, you are so right. I realize now that all of the things I've held onto all these years so tightly too are things that I could possibly live without. I think sometimes it's the memories associated with them that means far more than the item itself. As an example, I still have the program cover signed by a race car driver here that was a big hit for a time. He hasn't raced in years. Yet, I held onto it because it reminded me of the good times I had in watching the stock car races with my grandfather. Yet, the actual value of that program holds none. And then, I have all my other souvenirs of my past. But, I am realizing day by day that I need to let go of this stuff so that I may move on. And your article reminded me to of the fact that it's the little things that really do matter. Things like time with loved ones and how fleeting it can be. Nice piece. I look forward to reading more of your work.

Maybe that is all we need - the chance to change what we want today.

seemed so important, and a must to have; after the years go, you realize, we could get along with a lot less, except for the basics of
life, good, nutrition, a shirt on our back and a roof over our heads; mind you, for some, it might be a little late, being spoiled with so much, well to, have this realization, 'better late than never".
