There's an atmosphere of mutual respect and sincerity that pervades this site.
That's why I love to contribute here. As in the wider world, if we permit that atmosphere to be degraded without protest or taking action, that positive spirit can and will be slowly stripped away.
I propose that a new wrinkle be added to each author's control panel- the ability to delete spamming comments and their impact on blog ratings.
Bloggers could use this power on an "honor system". That is, we would all agree to retain the comments of all sincere responders, even if they disagree and give us low ratings. That's show biz, as they say (-:
My prediction is that if we had that power, and spammers knew their comments would disappear almost immediately, they would give up their vandalism at our site.
And if they didn't- it wouldn't matter anyway (-:
Times and circumstances change, and we need to preserve this great online forum, by adapting.
Fellow bloggers- what do you think?

I appreciate your support as I work to wake up the world to the reality and pervasiveness of socially acceptable cruelty toward children. From my point of view, the world's current awareness of the emotional and physical abuse of children is similar to how slavery was viewed hundreds of years ago. That was an unimaginable evil, directly in front of people's eyes, yet because it was socially acceptable the vast majority of people hardened their hearts to its complete wrongness. Most of the world, for thousands of years, was emotionally blind and numb to the horror of human slavery.
I believe that we are in a perfectly analogous situation, here in the 21st Century, regarding our inabilty to see what we do to our children. Because people generally block out the pain of their own upbringing, they can't see that they are treating their own kids in the ways that hurt themselves. And so the cycle of pain passes from generation to generation.
Because a critical number of people will have to look within, break through the denial of their own suffering as children, and then see how they are passing that pain on, we will need a worldwide movement akin to the spread of Christianity or Buddhism. It will take hundreds of years, but it has to begin somewhere. Let it begin here, and in the heart of every person brave enough to feel their own pain -- and therefore become capable of seeing the pain of the children.
