~Are  *sewing machines*   ...  becoming less used  these days  ?  And for what reason.... I am just wondering about this...  Years ago   probably before the 1900’s   women used to sew ... almost everything by hand,   I remember my mother in law  telling me.. that when they were all very young and lived on the farm..... their  mother ....sewed  everything for them... She even sewed and designed dresses out of flower sacks.  She made dishtowels and whatever was needed.    Later on.. after  * sewing machines.* were invented or perfected...   almost every woman around ...would have one in the home as a necessity. And actually made good use of them~
That was... also the time of   *Aprons*  and Quilts  being all  made.. ... with the use of a machine~ and of course by hand also  which many of you Quilters still do  *S*~And simply beautiful ones~
And my oh my what beautiful looking aprons also..   were designed    ... simply by experimenting.  Of course those were the days that ladies all wore aprons to protect their  nice dresses.. and clothes.. that they sewed ..and to keep them clean while doing other chores.
Later on we all made cloth diapers  or at least some of us did  ... by purchasing a few yards of flannel for the  diapers that kept our little ones comfortable... unlike these days  they now have the disposable diapers..   Most certainly  they are very convienient .. I do not  dis them  but in comparison to the ones from years ago... the flannel ones i would think were more comfortable.
However  i am getting a bit off the subject of the *Treasured sewing machine*  Of course  sewing machines are getting more elaborate these days... and i am sure ..that there still are some people that sew...I say *People* because i do know.. that a lot of men sew  beautifully these days    as well*and professionally~
I think with Money being so abundant   today ...  compared to long ago... people have the tendency to *Throw away*  anything that gets torn or looking tattered... rather than repair or alter    ....  So  to those that still do    use the machine.....*Happy Sewing...
