I was just listening to the weather report and ~ apparently it is going to turn cold again ~ We have been having a very strange Janurary this year~ with an abundant amount of snow  ~ maybe even a record   ~ However  rather than *Fret *   i was remembering way back when i was just a little girl ~ and we had some pertty cold winters ~with a lot of snow   ~  At that time  it was a blessing   to us   ~ Why you ask ?  Well ~Our mother   didnt have the modern facilities that we do now  ~ No running water   ~ or sewer~

  Mom used to go ourdoors and collect the snow   ~  Bring it into the house~ with simple Pails~ and put it into a huge boiler ~which sat on top of the wood   and coal burning stove   ~ Melt the snow ~and that in turn was our water source for dishes   ~ our baths   and whatever else was needed  ~   ~ Mom also carried out the  water ~~ when we were all finished ~and that was also by  pail  ~    Most of the time ~she walked to the back~  and dumped it on the garden  ~ And Oh yes   we also had a skating rink in the garden space ~during the winter   ` from which the water was also carried out there~

   I must remind you~ that mom also carried in the wood and coal for the stove ~and also carried out the ashed from the stove  ~

  The in the  winter ~ Mom also  made us many delicious treats  to eat  ~  At that time mom didnt have a fredge  as we all do now  ` Mom made use of the of snow by   ~ making  *Jello and ice cream pies  for us  kids  ~Freezing them outdoors  ~

   Not forgetting ~  the fun we had~ when mom would take the old sled out ~and put us all on the sled ~and pull us for a ride to see our grandparents ~who lived a few blocks away and  get our our door activities as well ~and fresh air~

 

Winter was   a fun time  ~ with fond memories   ~    Even with the modern  Facilities and all  Today~ ~ people  get depressed in the winter and complain   ~ Think back.......  to the times when we didnt have all this  ......and the great times we  had....   in the  winters.. years ago...... ~   Im sure you can dig up some happy times and memories of  the  winters past`     ~and Smile~
