Each American uses an average of 2,200 napkins a year. If we all use just one less napkin a day, more than a billion pounds of napkins could be saved from landfills each year. That's enough napkins to fill the Empire State Building!

In my family growing up, we only used cloth napkins if it was a holiday or special occassion.  In the last year I have used only cloth napkins and at first it was so special, like everyday was a holiday, I'm sort of used to it now.  I used different colors for each season, which is fun.

I love to sew, and so it has been even more fun for me to make cloth napkins, some I have recycled old sheets, or sewed some old clothing into napkins, but even to purchase them, they last you forever, wash after wash. Everytime I use them, I think of how I'm doing my share, it seems little to me, but it's huge in not contributing to filling our landfills each year.
