There was always something new to learn

blog
It was the most memorable summer vacation ever~We were about thirteen and fourteen years old then~  And for whatever reason~ our father decided~ that it would be a learning experience for my older sister and myself~to spend the summer at a convent in a small town where he grew up~But as it was~ the convent was full so we were told we could work in the hospital next door to the convent~
As they needed the help and there was a lot to learn as in any hospital~ Well the first time we ever  saw Mother Superior  ~ we shook in our shoes~ She had to be well over six feet and in her habit appeared to be a  giant of a person~But she had a heart a big as she was~
She looked very serious and spoke to both mom and dad~ then turned briskly to us and said  *Dont just stand there ~ lets get started*~and showed us to our room in the basement~
After our parents had left we wondered what was going to happen ~ but  no sooner did Mother Superior come in and give us a schedule of duties~ that were expected   to be done by us~
Well it was fun and we did such a variety of chores~
We had an early start in the mornings   by setting the trays in the kitchen  ~   Then we also worked in the laundry     for a few days     ` In those days they used a machine called a *Mangle*   to iron out the bedding~ and such~Oh the memories~ etched in our hearts~
Then we did many other chores  ~including steralizing instruments~There was always something new to learn~And being away in a small town  ~ we met many wonderful people as we walked  to the store and around town~My sister and i will remember those wonderful days growing up and thank our dad for the learning experience and then some~
