My own understanding and evolution regarding vision boards. From being very disillusioned (my first one) to feeling giddy with joy (the next one), this is my take on how to make them work!

blog
I was trolling around online a few weeks ago, and kept coming across information on vision boards.   I’ve previously been rather ambivalent about the idea of vision boards, because honestly the first one I made didn’t do much for me. For all of those who’ve seen The Secret, you’re familiar with the idea of visualizations being able to help manifest the things we want in our lives. Upon hearing this concept for the very first time, I was so encouraged by this idea that I immediately set out to make a board of my own.
That was over 3 years ago, and I’m sad to say that nothing from that original board ever showed up in my life.
And now I know why.
Ya Gotta Feel It
I’ve said it before, and I’m sure I’ll say it again, but it’s so true. .. You have to feel what you are trying to create, before you can create it. And that’s why my vision board experience did not yield positive results for me.
A vision board is not magic. There is not some supernatural science to using one. In and of themselves the pictures, images, words and phrases you paste are meaningless. The point to a vision board is to get you in a good place emotionally. To focus on the things you want and that bring you joy, excitement and happiness. If, while creating your board, you can let go of your fears, worries and anxieties and instead allow yourself to feel the excitement and anticipation of having all these wonderful things, then you are raising your energy from a lower one to a higher one. When you can raise your energy higher and higher you begin to use the Law of Attraction deliberately.   You can then literally begin to create the life you want. If you can feel it.
So what happens if you don’t feel it? You continue to create at your current level of emotional energy. If you don’t raise yourself up, you can’t create something new, better or different. And that’s what happened with me. When I made my first board I was full of fear (fear of my uncertain future), doubt (doubt that the concept would actually work) and desperation (I wanted these things so badly, and was terrified I’d never be able to have them.) Because that’s where my energy was and stayed, the project was doomed from the start.
In fact in time I tore my board down and threw it away, because rather than inspiring me and helping me feel better, each time I looked at it I only felt sad and inadequate because I still didn’t have those things!
Understanding energy, emotional vibrations and the Law of Attraction so much better than I did 3 years ago, I decided last week to give vision boards another try. But this time, with my own spin on it.
What I Love And Want More Of!
If the problem the first time was that I couldn’t feel it, then I needed the fix that. My solution was not to focus on the things I want, but don’ have, and instead to look for examples of things I already have in my life. Things I love or have loved about my life and would like to experience more of every day!   I believe every single one of us, at some point in our history has experienced even just a little of what we currently want. You simply have to search to data base a bit to find it, and that’s what I did. I spent a few days really thinking about what I’ve truly loved and enjoyed about my life, and would like to recreate.  Times when I felt good, loved, safe, beautiful, special, permanent and secure, etc.  For example, I remember the first time I felt truly financially safe was when I was on an all expenses paid trip to China. I’d scrimped, saved, stressed and borrowed money for an entire year to be a part of this trip. Because my financial picture had always been one of stress and disaster, knowing all my needs were already taken care of afforded me an unimaginable sense of freedom.  And I liked how that felt!  It would be exquisite to feel that all the time, so I used a picture of an airplane flying over a globe to recapture that for me.

Or, I remembered when I was a Freshman in high school and I boy I barely knew sent me flowers because he had a crush on me. What wonderful surprise for a young girl! I felt so special, so unique and important. I liked how that felt too, so I added a bouquet of roses to my board.

And, I love music. I love music with all my soul and have commented more than once that sometimes I wish I could “get inside” the music. When I play RockBand with my boys, I do feel like I’m inside the music, and I love how that feels, so I included a picture of that as well.

These are all things I love, and definitely want more of in my life. It took me 2 days to get my “What I Love” board together, and I can’t remember when I’ve had more fun. Cutting, gluing, painting and pasting, I was grinning from ear to ear. You can bet I was ‘feeling’ it this time. And the best part is that each time I look at it, I am overcome with feelings f hope, love, excitement, safety, joy, freedom, happiness and abundance, and that is the point. I know I have been and will continue to create these things for my life. Not because I pasted them onto a piece of poster board, but because I can feel them. I can feel how much I loved them the first time, and I am so very excited to have more and more and more.
Give it a try, see what you think, and have fun with it! This was great for me, but not any one idea or concept works for everyone. I would love to know your variations of visualizations and vision boards! How have you been able to raise yourself to a better place, to finally feel it and create the life you want?

As always it is my goal to uplift, inspire and help others to heal their lives. Thank you for allowing me to be part of this with you. - Kim
