We often first see the impossible before we see the possible....

albinodeerd.JPGI usually consider myself a very trusting person, almost gullible at times. However, I was taught a great lesson recently when we took our kids to a cabin in southwest Missouri for a weekend. This experience was well before the year of my enlightenment and I look back now knowing I would have believed what I was told.

The couple who had the cabin were very sweet and welcoming. The gentleman was talking to my two older boys while I was hurriedly getting stuff out of the car and I overheard him say, "You'll have to watch out for my albino deer". I had never heard of such a thing and my husband and I quickly looked at each other and with the same thought said, "he's pulling their leg".

As we unpacked everything and ate dinner, we ventured out to the pond behind the cabin. We decided to go out into the woods and look for wildlife. It was a cool November evening. I grabbed my camera in hope we could "spot a bear", I told my 5 year old. As we were walking through the woods, my husband whispers as he looks into the distance, "What is that
white thing". He and I shared our thoughts, "Do you think he rigged up something white that looks like a deer that turns it's head?" We still didn't believe it. Staring each other down, the white deer methodically turned it's head and then leaped into the air and ran off. We were aware of him and he was keenly aware of us. We watched him for about a minute. He was beautiful and REAL. I snapped these photos and now have them on the wall in our family room. Two lessons I learned from this are to believe people until they give you a reason not to and the rare and beautiful are usually very close, so close we often miss it.
